Divergence Online is an action MMO game with a focus on survival and resource gathering. After landing on a strange alien world, players are forced to explore the hostile planet in order to survive.
After a successful number one spot on Steam's Greenlight service and a promising start, Divergence Online has had a disappointing time spent in Early Access. The game's two person developer team have made limited improvements, creating a hostile and diminishing player base. This negativity is unfortunate, for the game has a solid skeleton. Players choose from a number of different character types and then set out in a world populated by alien lifeforms and other players. The primary focus of the game is harvesting resources which are then used to create better weapons and armour. Divergence Online has an interesting world and decent graphics (with some jarring stock textures) but ultimately falls apart thanks to a tiny player base (often little more than 3 at a time) and a lack of confidence in the future of the game.
Divergence Online is one of countless promising Early Access titles which appear to be practically abandoned. While the game has a higher level of polish than most, the lack of certainty in its future means it is an extremely risky purchase.
